UPVC Double glazing - Energy Efficient Glass.

What is energy efficient glass ?

Here at Sweet Dreams home Improvements we using Planitherm total but there are other choices available.

Why Planitherm Total Glass

A staggering 26% of all domestic heat loss escapes through windows. Installing energy efficient windows with Planitherm glass can save you money on your heating bills when compared to standard double glazed windows.

Planitherm total+ is a high performance low-E glass, developed and manufactured in the UK. It has been designed to achieve the best possible window energy ratings and as such is one of the most energy efficient window glass products available for residential renovation projects.

Research has shown that many homeowners assume that all double and triple glazed windows are equally as efficient. In fact, there are huge differences in performance of different glazing configurations and it is often largely the glass that makes the difference.

How does it benefit me?

Energy Savings

  • Improvement in the energy efficiency of your home thanks to its all-round balance of thermal insulation and maximising free solar gain.
  • Helps to achieve the best window energy rating performance
  • Reduces the amount of energy required to keep your home comfortable
  • Environmentally friendly solution, given the lower CO2 emissions associated with reduced energy consumption.
Winter Comfort

  • The coating helps keep heat from escaping through the glass so the amount of heat lost is reduced.
  • Your home is warmer and your heating bills are reduced as it helps to eliminate cold areas.
Comfort and Looks

  • Helps to reduce condensation on the inner pane.
  • It helps to maximise the entry of natural daylight.
  • Maximises the use of living and working areas.

Having had double glazing installed some 60% of homeowners told Which that their home was warmer since installing new double glazed windows and 36% said that they thought it had actually reduced their energy bills.

According to the Energy Saving Trust if you were to replace all of the single pane windows in an average 3 bed semi detached property you'd save between £75 and £100 per year on your energy bills and £85 - £110 per year if you installed the even more efficient A rated glass. That does not sound much, however if you look at the longterm benefits as double glazing should last for at least 20 years then it adds up to a saving of £1,500 - £2,000 over the 20 year period.

What are Window Energy Ratings?

As part of the Kyoto agreement the government has made commitments to reduce carbon emissions. Referred to as WER, Window Energy Ratings helps everyone see how energy efficient the windows are. The system operates on a scale of G to A+ with the A+ windows being the most energy efficient. It is a similar scheme to those now seen on white goods and lightbulbs.

A windows energy rating is determined by a formula which takes into account the total solar heat transmittance, the amount of the sun's heat which can pass through the glass usually referred to as g value); the u-value of the whole window (the frame and glass combined) how well the window keeps the heat in your home; and the air infiltration through the window seals. To make the ratings standard across all products, a standard window size and configuration is used. The final result is then placed into a band on the scale G to A+.

A Window Energy Rating app to the whole window in other words both the frame and the glass sealed unit and not those individually. It is at the point at which all of these components come together that the rating and the label are obtained.

  3. Indeed, a very classy house - neat and with beautiful windows - I would personally, if I got to choose, pick Veka PVC windows, or maybe some sash, colourful ones. But it might not be better than what was displayed in the photo above...

  4. If you are having condensation in your double glazing windows, it means your double glazing windows need to be replaced. Condensation is perhaps the most common form of damp that you can see in your home. It can cause structural damage to your property including wallpaper to peel away, damp patches to appear on walls and a build up of moisture, which causes streaming windows.
